REFLECTING ON 2022: 3 SHOE TRENDS THAT TOOK OVER.
We have completely lost count of how many shoes we have cleaned and restored in 2022, but what we can say is we have been able to spot trends that have fully taken over this year and we are here to share them with you:
1.) THE TECHNICAL BASKETBALL LOOK:
"Following The Last Dance doc from [2020], the world has become more appreciative of the more technical, and perhaps less aesthetically pleasing, basketball sneakers like the Air Jordan 6 (à la Travis Scott), Air Jordan 14 (Aleali May's latest design has seriously piqued the interest of female sneakerheads) or the Foamposite (a major collab with Comme des Garçons). As someone who works in the industry, it's interesting to see sales spike on these silhouettes, where it used to be straight up Jordan 1s or Dunks," says Finlay (Social Media Manager at LACED).
2.) THE 'DAD' STYLE:
Dad shoes have been in fashion for a couple of years now and are very much here to stay. While traditionally considered “ugly,” they've had a resurgence with the 90s nostalgia and normcore trends. Plus, they're exceptionally comfortable and great for all-day wear.
Fashionable 'Dad' shoes you need:
- New Balance 530 trainers - gives sporty/gym dad vibes.
- Nike Air Monarchs - gives going for a run at 1pm, coffee date at 2pm vibes.
- Adidas Ozweego's- gives comfort!
3.) UGG'S ARE BACK!
Originally worn by Aussie surfers in the sixties before becoming the favourite shoe of Young Hollywood in the early Noughties, the UGG is one of the most hotly debated, love-it-or-hate-it shoes in recent history, and it seems they are here to stay. Towards the end of 2022, we have seen a rise in the amount of UGG boots coming into the lab. The platform uggs completely took over and re-booted people's love for UGG's in general!
